As a part time artist in painting, drawing and sculpture in recent years I have narrowed my artwork subjects to mainly wildlife, pets and birds. Being associated for many years in breeding and showing dogs gave me an unexpected foundation and realization to incorporate animals into my art on both canvas and paper using various mediums.
I enjoy black and white tonal drawings in graphite pencil which can bring such realism and detail into the subjects. On the other hand I strive to paint my animal characters in bright exuberant colours to illuminate an overall happiness and warmness into the portrait as if to almost make them surreal to some effect without losing character. In a lot of my larger works I like to paint the subject “larger than life” for that up close and personal approach with the viewer as if they have just been introduced to a new friend and ready to chat.
Previously painting mostly in both acrylics and oils I have more recently taken to watercolours. After a one week workshop tutored by Australian and International acclaimed wildlife artist Paul Margocsy and now using the same techniques have found myself in a slightly different path while still continuing with the same subjects of animals and birds.
A previous winner of the Blacktown City Art Prize “Best Local Artist “Award. I have also been selected as a finalist in the same Art Prize on many other occasions. Previous winner of the Blue Mountains Artfest “ People’s Choice Award” .
I now reside in Wentworth Falls amongst other artisans and the inspiring landscape of the Blue Mountains. My residence which incorporates an abundance of art space and a front gallery can be viewed on weekends by prior appointment or on various open days throughout the year. I continue to enjoy my love of art not only as the artist but also as an admirer of others talents and concepts.
