The inspiration for my work comes from an admiration for the simple but sophisticated glazed stoneware and porcelain found in our ceramic history. The pots I like were a simple expression of the materials available to the potters of the day. In my work I hope to emulate the soft strength of these classic wares, and at the same time express some of the particular characteristics of the Australian materials available to me. Utilising local rocks and clays provides a unique quality to the glazes, and establishes for me an intimate connection to the landscape.
