The Inaugural GREENS @ LEURA Art Award for Drawing & Painting officially opens Sunday 1st August 2010!!

In May 2010, Alison Jane Rice of the Botanical Theatre Artist Studio was fortunate to meet with the Governor of New South Wales AC CVO, Professor Marie Bashir and discuss her Blue Mountains arts practice. She also handed the Governor a Letter of Invitation to open the Inaugural Greens @ Leura Art Award for Drawing & Painting. Unfortunately, due to a longstanding commitment Lady Bashir may not be able to attend the October Opening but in her personal letter to Alison on June 30th she wrote (excerpt):”Your Art Show demonstrates an important initiative in support of Leura Golf Club, which has been for many decades a well-loved venue for golfers. I am sure that your initiative and contribution will prove to be very beneficial. Would you please convey my best wishes to all involved for a most successful and memorable gathering.”
Alison was motivated to create this Award to financially assist the preservation of the century old Leura Golf Club. Any housing development on the site in the future would be a tragedy as the Club has profound historical, cultural and environmental significance.
The Art Award officially opens for entries on Sunday 1st August with the entry closing date on Friday 10 September. Terms & Conditions and the official Entry Form for ages 16 years and over will be available for download on the Leura Golf Club’s website in its Club News section.

The Award’s Opening Night will be held at 6pm on Saturday 9 October 2010 with the fifty (50) finalists works alternating between the Leura Golf Club and Fairmont Resort for the duration of the exhibition. The Award will be open to the public from Sunday 10 October until the 2nd January 2011. All works exhibited will be for sale.
