BIOGRAPHY:

Alison-Jane’s art practice emerges from her Botanical Theatre Artist Studio in Leura where she draws and paints most of the week with minimal distraction.
In 1995, she received a Masters in Creative Arts from the University of Wollongong after completion of her Bachelors degree.
Creating a sixteen year non-profit project ALIGHT in 1990, to highlight the importance of artist-in-residence programs in childrens hospitals worldwide, and initiating a performance event related to indigenous mythology in the Yiribana Gallery of the Art Gallery of New South Wales in 1996, led Alison to be awarded a World Health Organization Healthy Cities Award for contributions to Youth, Arts and Environment. Involved in all creative arts, including writing, book illustration, theatre & film, Alison has been successful in award exhibitions in galleries of local and international standing and remains active with commissions and the development of her Botanical Theatre and Natural History series.
In 2009, Alison’s finalist successes included the Margaret Flockton Award for Botanical Illustration, the South Australian Museum’s Waterhouse Natural History Prize, Cowra Regional Art Gallery’s Calleen Art Award and the Woollahra Art Prize. She also gained representation at the Akron Art Centre in Santorini, Greece.
“I often employ theatrical themes to illuminate the relationship between art and humanity. My works are an internal response to my conduit of experience and aim to provoke in the viewer an intimate consideration of human life and the natural world. Drawing, painting, printmaking & photography provide me with infinite opportunity to communicate my imaginary, emotional and spiritual mind map and also explore the construction and erosion of social, environmental and spiritual identity.
